Dismal Swamp Canal Trail

The Dismal Swamp Trail is located south of the Welcome Center & Dismal Swamp State Park in South Mills.  This 3 mile paved trail meanders through a wooded area between the historic waterway and Hwy 17, ending at NC Hwy 343.  A 5 foot side highway extension provides access for the trail to the Village of South Mills via NC 343 and Mullen Rd, ending at the drawbridge over the canal.  The trail is designated as part of the NC Birding Trail and a segment of North Carolina’s East Coast Greenway State Trail.
